Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today's annual Teacher production was disrupted by two elves on a zip-wire!! Shockingly, these sneaky elves had been watching the entire performance!
The elf saga started several weeks ago when Santa dropped off empty boxes which were a window to the North Pole! Over the next few weeks things had gone missing - in particular poetry books and rhyming words! The elves had also been eating chocolate!! It turns out that the elves wanted to read the poetry so father Christmas asked our pupils to write some amazing poetry!
The morning after they were posted into the gift boxes (which had become heavier and heavier over the past few weeks - due to hard work) two elves appeared on a zip wire suggesting that their work of supplying presents was done! When the children returned to their classes (some were left very messy by these cheeky elves) they discovered presents as well as a card which had been written to them by elves who had read their poems!
It was a magical end to an exciting term at Britannia Village Primary School!
Members of the Year 5 and 6 STEM Club recently entered their designs for the national Primary Engineer Leaders Award. Over 37,000 children entered the competition with 1,934 entries from London alone. We are delighted to report that four of our pupils achieved distinction in this competition meaning that their designs were in the top one per cent of all entries received:
Zuzanna was also one of only two Year 6 award winners for the whole of London. She attended an awards ceremony at Kingston University on Friday 6th July with Olaf (one of our Assistant Head Teachers) and her family who were rightly very proud of her! Her design (along with the designs of our other three distinction pupils) was displayed at the university and was viewed by hundreds of visitors.
We are delighted that the designs of four of our children caught the imagination of the distinguished panel of judges from Kingston University and its sponsors. Our thanks to Luke (one of our Year Group Leaders) for supporting the children in producing and refining their designs. Perhaps in the future some of our pupils may design inventions that will change the lives of millions of people!!
After a busy day in Paris and a late return to the Youth Hostel, the pupils had a restful morning. They had a fantastic breakfast, filled their water bottles and headed to our partner school Brunschvig Rousseau. They were greeted by excited pupils at the gate who cheered and then clapped them through their corridors - waving a Union Jack flag.
After a brief tour of the school, it was straight into a rehearsal of their British and French Rock performance. Both sets of pupils did an amazing job, Maseray held her group together well while Zuzanna, Ellie-May, Mariam, Zara and Bianca led the smiles.
Tomi's group did an amazing job of talking through and adapting the routine to fit a different backing track.
One rehearsal later and the show was ready to go!
Following a very healthy lunch which was kindly provided by our French friends, we took our coach to the park where the pupils had an opportunity to relax on the slides and climbing ropes. It was fantastic to see them challenging themselves and making tasks out of the activities at hand. We have some truly agile pupils.
After our time in the park and a stroll through the Paris Gate, we headed to Flunch for an early dinner. This was then followed by the epic joint performance to a host of parents!Everyone did amazingly well and after returning to the hostel to shower, we have packed our bags and are ready for the final encore tomorrow!
PARIS - Day Three:
Wow! What a day we had yesterday... as I currently write this Year 6 are currently enjoying a well deserved lie-in after an epic day exploring Paris.
An early start (around 6am!) to catch the train from Lille to Paris Gare du Nord was followed by a lovely morning walk up to Sacre Coeur at Montmatre where we were joined by TWO special guests - Laurie and Noah who took timeout from Wales to join us for the day. We took the 300, yes THREE HUNDRED, steps to the top to enjoy some spectacular views of a VERY hot Paris.
Having planned the trip as part of a lesson last week, the children knew exactly where to head next - south east to the Metro were we headed to Notre Dame. Lunch was followed by a walk around this iconic building before taking the Batobus for a scenic boat trip along the Seine: along the way we discovered some of the amazing architecture that Paris had to offer.
We cruised along the Seine towards the Eiffel Tower - which looks just as impressive every time it is seen. The children loved it! We took the boat back to wards Notre Dame and headed back towards the station. An 8:52pm train accompanied by a cheeky McDonald's (sorry parents!) and we were back and showered, ready for bed!
We were so proud of their attitude yesterday, it was extremely hot but their behaviour was exemplary: we were complimented on more than one occasion by tourists and Parisiens alike! I'm sure the children can't wait to tell you all about it!
DAY TWO: YPRES and FLANDERS FIELDS MUSEUM
Year 6 had another jam-packed day today: first they completed the now traditional 'supermarket task' whereby they worked in groups of four to buy their own lunch on a budget before visiting the historically important town of Ypres and the impressive Flanders Field Museum. Upon returning to Lille we changed and had a lovely meal in a local pizzeria!
A more detailed update to follow but for now it's an early night for tomorrow is our mammoth visit to Paris!
Bon nuit!
Year 6 Lille Visit
Lille 6 have arrived in Lille!
After a (slightly) delayed start we still made our train across the channel and have had a great day exploring the World War 1 trenches of Vimy Ridge before heading into Lille to have dinner at Flunch. This was followed by a wonderful wander in the early evening sunshine around Lille itself.
Laurent, our teacher contact in our link school, shared some great facts about the history of Lille as we explored the old town including the town hall, the main square and the wonderful concert hall before heading back to the hostel for showers and bed - just in time to see Harry Kane's last minute winner for England!
We have an exciting day tomorrow in Belgium: buying our own lunch before heading to the historically important town of Ypres and the Flanders Fields museum. Come back tomorrow to see what we got up to!
Halima and Sean took a group of Year 5 basketball pupils to see some excellent basketball on Sunday 20th May.
The pupils all enjoyed watching amazing players like Catherine Carr.
Lots of fun was had!
