Dear parent/carer
We would like to welcome you all back to Nursery and hope that you had a lovely time over half term. We have a busy term ahead and a lot of exciting things to do.
Children will continue to have library day each Thursday where children can choose a book to take home and share with parents. Every child will need a book bag to take their book home in. You can support your child by reading to them regularly and asking them questions about the book or story.
Our topic this term is Traditional Tales. Here the children will learn and share traditional tales from a variety of cultures. Children will be given opportunities to retell the stories using their own words and act them out using props. Children will also draw pictures and learn to retell a story in sequence using modelled words and sentences as well as their own. Our aim is that children are able to write their names independently so having opportunities at home to practise this would be beneficial.
We would be grateful for donations of 50p a week for toast. This not only enables your children to enjoy toast each morning it also allows us to buy the ingredients for cooking activities and making play dough. Please also send in a change of clothes to hang on your child's peg at school in case of accidents or wet clothes from playing in the water tray.
Thank you to those parents who ensure their children attend school consistently. As you may be aware, the whole school attendance target is 96%, however nursery attendance during the last half term was only 92%. It is vital that Nursery children come to school every day so they have the best possible start to their education. Children who come to school on a regular basis settle quicker, perform better and are able to learn more. They enjoy the routine that regular attendance brings and are able to build stable friendships on this basis. Weekly attendance results will be clearly displayed at the entrance to nursery.

Children learn language through meaningful, memorable repetition and at Britannia Village we use the ‘Talk for Writing’ approach by Pie Corbett. This enables children to internalise the language of story so they can imitate it, innovate it and create their own stories independently. We want children to love and be excited by stories and books as well as become confident and competent speakers and writers.

Every child will need a book bag and it would be beneficial if you can read the book to your child and ask them to explain what is going on in the pictures and how to hold the book carefully.

Topic 1— Me and My Family
This term our first topic is Me and My Family’. The children will be learning to talk about themselves, their family and the world around them. They will learn and share their home experiences together and retell stories using their own words and acting them out using props. Children will also draw pictures of themselves and their family.
