Welcome

Dear Parent/Carer

On behalf of the children, staff and trustees, I would like to welcome you to our school.  I hope that this website will provide you with some useful information and also an insight into the ethos and aims of our fantastic school.

Britannia Village Primary School is a thriving multi-cultural inclusive school, which promotes a safe, caring, challenging and creative environment.  We aim to develop independent, responsible, pupils who have respect and environmental awareness, and are equipped with the skills needed to contribute positively to their community and be productive global citizens.  We have high standards and expectations for ourselves and our pupils which are supported in partnership with our parents/carers.

We believe that children learn and develop best through a variety of opportunities which are creative, motivating and challenging.  We therefore provide a curriculum which as well as being rich in music, art, drama and dance, makes cross-curricular links, good use of the local area and enrichment activities after school. We are currently in the process of re-applying for an Artsmark Award. Our most recent accreditation was at a Gold level and this is testimony to the value we place on the arts. Our corridors are glowing with superb artwork, our school hall filled with amazing singing and our classrooms bubbling with harmonious music and dramatic whooshes.

The school is committed to developing environmental initiatives which help to reduce our waste.  Our children have a voice in our school and through our School Council our pupils have made a difference to our school.

We actively promote a healthy lifestyle of regular exercise together with an awareness of healthy eating choices.  We provide swimming, gymnastics and many sports and dance opportunities. Our pupils have also had the opportunity to see what this looks like at an elite level in the shape of NFL and England football matches.

Our school has made a substantial investment in ICT.  All of our classrooms have interactive whiteboards and in Years 2-6 our pupils have a Chromebook each, allowing them instant access to Google Suite (G-suite). Our teachers are all well-trained in the use of G-suite meaning that we are able to demonstrate excellent classroom practice as well as facilitate the learning beyond the school day. In recognition of our excellent use of this software, we have been recognised as a Google Reference School.

During our Ofsted inspection, when asked by the inspector what they liked about the school, a child commented, “I like it all, it’s brilliant!” We know that this is how all of our children feel about coming to Britannia Village! Our teachers make learning fun and our pupils shine.

In June 2017, our school became the flagship school for the Britannia Education Trust. Please visit our Trust site to find out more about the Britannia Education Trust which is steered by our fantastic Executive Headteacher, Linda-May Bingham.

We are very proud of our school and our school community. We firmly believe that ‘it takes a whole village’ to educate a child! Feel free to come and see how we bring the African proverb to life!
